Mike Shimmin entered the accounting profession in October 1986, after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Management (emphasis in accounting) from Golden Gate University and an eight-year hiatus that included a Masters degree from North Park Theological Seminary and serving youth ministries in Marin County. Mike was hired by a prominent Marin County firm and obtained experience in auditing, accounting, long and short range business planning, projections, litigation support, personnel recruiting and management, and taxation of individuals and closely held businesses. He has extensive experience with nonprofit corporations, construction companies, and manufacturers. He received his certification in January 1989 and quickly rose through the ranks to Manager.
Mike joined Ghirardo CPA in September of 2001, and manages the financial reporting services including; audits, establishing total quality initiatives for financial reporting, and audit training. He has developed a keen ability to address a broad cross-section of client services ranging from individual tax planning to corporate preparation for mergers and acquisitions. Mike’s extensive experience in auditing and financial business analysis has evolved into an enjoyment and aptitude for systems analysis, system improvement, and process management.
Mike belongs to a small category of long time Marin residents able to claim that he attended the same high school as his grandmother, mother, and father. In fact, his great grandmother lived in San Francisco at the time of the great earthquake in 1906. Mike enjoys hiking and woodworking, and is actively involved in his church community.
